Ford to Use Cutting-Edge 3D Virtual Reality Tool to Design Better Cars

Harvey Goldstein stewards Harvest International Indonesia and is a director of Business-Link Consultancy headquartered in Singapore. For the past five decades, Harvey Goldstein has facilitated trade and direct foreign investments in Indonesia and other Southeast Asian countries. One of the major companies that he has helped facilitate business ventures is Ford Motor.

One of the world’s largest companies with over $160 billion in sales in 2018, Ford Motor recently announced its adoption of the 3D virtual reality tool Gravity Sketch. At the Ford Design Studio in Dearborn, Michigan, a designer enters a room and uses a headset and controllers to design a 3D virtual reality car around himself, using gestures that, through motion tracking, imitates pen and paper sketching.

Traditionally, automotive design starts with 2D sketching and transformed into a 3D model using computer-aided software. The process could take weeks unlike Gravity Sketch, which skips the 2D step and only takes a couple of hours. The designer can tailor the structure with a 360-degree view, resulting in a more occupant-centric and better-designed car.

Harvey Goldstein leverages over 50 years of experience in international business toward his leadership of PT Harvest International Indonesia and Business-Link Consulting in Singapore. Under Harvey Goldstein’s leadership, Harvest International advises clients in Indonesia and throughout Southeast Asia about matters related to venture capital opportunities, international trade, technology transfer, and development. Notable clients include General Motors, Ford Motor Company, and Chiquita.

The world’s leading banana company, Chiquita has been shipping bananas since 1870, when Lorenzo Dow Baker shipped 160 bunches from Jamaica to Jersey City. Since bananas require minimal handling and very specific atmospheric conditions to ripen properly, shipping the fruit was challenging. Fortunately, favorable winds allowed Baker to reach Jersey City in 11 days, resulting in an impressive profit on his investment.

Today, modern technology helps companies overcome some of the many challenges that accompany shipping bananas. In February, Chiquita announced that the company will be adding five full container vessels that will be used to ship bananas from Central America to Europe’s Vlissingen port in the Netherlands. The vessels use ultra-efficient containers equipped with software that is designed to regulate the containers’ compressors and interior atmosphere. The new technology will result in increased efficiency of up to 50 percent, saving 17,000 tons of carbon emissions from entering the atmosphere.

Nearly 150 years after Baker’s first shipment of bananas left Central America, modern shipping technology allows people all over the world to enjoy fresh bananas.
