The Nimbus program, which dates back to 1964, used its satellites to monitor and observe cloud conditions both day and night, acting as one of the first weather satellites. Data was gathered from around the world, using radiometers, a Coastal Zone Color Scanner, and ozone mappers to track the chemistry and temperatures of the atmosphere and monitor the world’s ice and seas as well as radiation levels. The Nimbus satellite series ran for 14 years and included eight different models, all of which were weather satellites with slightly different objectives, among them studying the characteristics of the atmosphere, oceans, and earth’s heat balance, monitoring pollution, measuring ozone levels and atmospheric water vapor, and enabling weather analysis. Nimbus satellites set the standards for modern weather and atmospheric data collection.

Harvey Goldstein is chairman of Harvest International, Inc., and a businessman with nearly five decades of experience. Currently based in Singapore, Harvey Goldstein's work includes consulting with businesses in Indonesia, where he formerly sat as president and governor of the American Chamber of Commerce. Indonesia, an archipelago consisting of 17,000 islands located on the equator between the Indian and Pacific Oceans, is the world's fourth most populated nation.
Sumatra, Papua New Guinea, Java, Sulawesi, and Kalimantan are the largest islands in the archipelago, with Java having the most concentrated cluster of inhabitants. As a developing region, Indonesia has previously struggled with overpopulation and illiteracy, among other issues like a financial crisis and unrest among inhabitants. However, progress has been made in recent years to boost the nation's economy and morale. Because of its scenic beauty and a wide variety of plants and animals, including some rare creatures like the Komodo dragon, tourism plays a large role in the economy. Harvey Goldstein, chairman of PT Harvest International Indonesia, is a longtime supporter of the Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth. Prior to establishing Harvest International, Harvey Goldstein spent nearly two decades in various business leadership positions throughout Indonesia.
The Center for Talented Youth (CTY) at Johns Hopkins University provides international students in various age groups with a multitude of learning opportunities, ranging from CTY summer programs to the CTYOnline service. CTY additionally offers students four unique scholarship opportunities. With the Johns Hopkins University CTY Scholars program, established in 2004, talented eighth-grade students from low-income families and other underrepresented communities take part in various educational programs that prepare the them for future academic success. Further, the Rural Connections Initiative provides educational advising services to individuals who may not otherwise receive such opportunities. The Center Scholars Program features a number of scholarship opportunities while also providing financial aid to the CTY Scholars Program and the Rural Connections Initiative. Lastly, students entering eighth grade who have demonstrated academic potential can apply for the Jack Kent Cooke Foundation Young Scholars Program. Business leader, Harvey Goldstein, has extensive experience working in Indonesia. Today, Harvey Goldstein draws on his international business experience in Indonesia to provide consulting expertise on matters such as foreign direct investment (FDI).
Foreign direct investment entails investment in a company in a given country by a company or individual from another country. Often, FDI is the top source of external funding for developing economies. Furthermore, FDI recipients may attain benefits such as job creation and the influx of technical knowledge. Southeast Asia has benefited from increased foreign investment in recent years. In fact, during 2013, FDI in five Southeast Asian nations outpaced FDI in China for the first time. The five nations (Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Thailand), which are collectively known as the ASEAN-5, received more than $125 billion in foreign investment in 2013. During that period, FDI in China dropped by 2.9 percent to less than $120 billion. At the same time, China has grown to be the third largest foreign investor in the world, with much of its investment directed to the nearby Southeast Asian economies. Harvey Goldstein is the current chairman of PT Harvest International Indonesia and former executive vice president of PT Resources Management Indonesia. When he is not overseeing business operations at his company, Harvey Goldstein supports groups such as the Young Presidents’ Organization.
The Young Presidents’ Organization (YPO) will take part in the 2015 Global EDGE event between March 25th and March 27th in Melbourne, Australia. The annual event is expected to attract more than 3,000 chief executives, innovative thinkers, and special invited guests. Melbourne, known as the Land of Connected Cultures, has provided 2015 Global EDGE with a theme of Dreamtime, which lends itself to the YPO’s mission of interconnectedness among business professionals. In Australia, Dreamtime is the name given to a legend told by the country’s aboriginal people that acknowledges that all humans are connected through a shared point of origin, known as Bunjil. Today, Australia’s aboriginals represent the oldest continuous living culture on earth. Harvey Goldstein chairs the Southeast Asia Advisory Board of Johns Hopkins University’s Center for Talented Youth (CTY). In 2013, he and his wife established a scholarship fund that has enabled students from Singapore to attend CTY programs.
In the late 1970s, the CTY was established. The organization nurtures the talents of younger people through various programs, and by providing them with various services and resources. Leading visionaries, such as the creator of Facebook and a co-founder of Google, were CTY students. Another CTY student, Megan Sims, wrote a regular column in the Dallas Morning News, a paper with a readership of over 250,000, while still a sophomore in high school. The response to her bimonthly column was positive. Milad Pooran, another former student of CTY, who was enrolled in the advanced math program, has gone on to give exemplary service as a combat medic with the National Guard. An immigrant from Iran, he is a seasoned physician who has also had the opportunity to conduct research on HIV at the National Institutes of Health. Harvey Goldstein is the managing director of Business-Link Consultancy in Singapore. In past years, he has played leaderships roles in the Kadin Indonesia Komite Amerika Serikat and the American Chamber of Commerce in Indonesia. In addition, Harvey Goldstein supports the Johns Hopkins University Center for Talented Youth.
The Center for Talented Youth Online is a digital hub designed to help pre-K to grade-12 students advance their learning. Eligibility for the program is based on student performance on one of a number of specific tests, according to the student’s grade level. Scores received not only determine eligibility, but also establish which programs a student can enroll in. For students in the second to the eighth grades, eligibility for testing is determined by a global talent search conducted by the Center for Talented Youth. The talent search identifies students with outstanding academic ability. Academically talented students unable to take the eligibility test on time can apply for provisional admission. This allows them to enroll in one course through CTY Online. In addition, students may qualify for the Study of Exceptional Talent (SET) program. Qualified students must score at least 700 on the math or critical reading sections of the SAT before their 13th birthday, or 10 points higher for each month beyond their 13th birthday.
