Harvey Goldstein - Conducting a Sound Feasibility Analysis

Harvey Goldstein serves as the president and director of Harvest International, Inc., and has been a resident in Southeast Asia for more than 40 years. Harvey Goldstein also holds a position with Business-Link Consultancy, PTE, LTD, which is based in Singapore. Further, he was instrumental in founding the Manchester Group, a group of companies providing a wide spectrum of consulting services to entrepreneurs, including project financing, government liaison, and feasibility analyses for new project ideas.

The purpose of a feasibility analysis is to determine whether time and finance should be invested in a proposed project or idea. This is an important preliminary step in the development of a business concept, and ideally takes place before a full business plan is developed. Professionals evaluate many aspects of the proposed project and introduce several scenarios before making an assessment. Some of these aspects include the market environment, legal issues, environmental concerns, risk factors, and sales strategies.

A business feasibility analysis sometimes investigates feasibility based on the Dimensions of Business Viability Model: market, technical feasibility, business model, management model, economic and financial models, and exit strategy. Professionals may also use such traditional strategies as the SWOT analysis, PEST, and Porters Five Forces. The results of a business feasibility analysis are compiled into a formal report to facilitate decision making.

As the chairman of Harvest International, Inc., Harvey Goldstein has worked to help the company thrive for nearly three decades. Prior to this role, Harvey Goldstein served as a director for Resources Management International, Inc., a technology management and training firm based in Indonesia that offers its services to developing Southeast Asian countries. The Nimbus program launched in 1964 as a means to monitor and observe weather and atmospheric conditions around the clock. The satellites were equipped with microwave and infrared radiometers, Coastal Zone Color Scanners, and ozone mappers to provide global data on the Earth's ice and sea coverage and atmospheric chemistry, temperatures, and radiation levels. The series of satellites included Nimbus 1, Nimbus B, and Nimbus models 4 through 7 weather satellites with objectives like monitoring pollutants, measuring water vapor, analyzing the ozone layer, and aiding in weather analysis. Nimbus satellites are no longer in use, but the satellites paved the way for the modern technology used to collect data on weather patterns and atmospheric conditions.

Based in Singapore, Harvey Goldstein has served as the chairman of Harvest International, Inc., for nearly 30 years. With over 50 years of experience in international and domestic business, Harvey Goldstein previously served as a founding shareholder and director of Resources Management International, Inc., a firm that enables developing countries in Southeast Asia to grow through technology and management training, in Indonesia. The Nimbus program, which dates back to 1964, used its satellites to monitor and observe cloud conditions both day and night, acting as one of the first weather satellites. Data was gathered from around the world, using radiometers, a Coastal Zone Color Scanner, and ozone mappers to track the chemistry and temperatures of the atmosphere and monitor the world’s ice and seas as well as radiation levels. The Nimbus satellite series ran for 14 years and included eight different models, all of which were weather satellites with slightly different objectives, among them studying the characteristics of the atmosphere, oceans, and earth’s heat balance, monitoring pollution, measuring ozone levels and atmospheric water vapor, and enabling weather analysis. Nimbus satellites set the standards for modern weather and atmospheric data collection.

Foreign Direct Investment in Southeast Asia

9/25/2014

Business leader, Harvey Goldstein, has extensive experience working in Indonesia. Today, Harvey Goldstein draws on his international business experience in Indonesia to provide consulting expertise on matters such as foreign direct investment (FDI).

Foreign direct investment entails investment in a company in a given country by a company or individual from another country. Often, FDI is the top source of external funding for developing economies. Furthermore, FDI recipients may attain benefits such as job creation and the influx of technical knowledge.

Southeast Asia has benefited from increased foreign investment in recent years. In fact, during 2013, FDI in five Southeast Asian nations outpaced FDI in China for the first time. The five nations (Indonesia, Singapore, Malaysia, the Philippines, and Thailand), which are collectively known as the ASEAN-5, received more than $125 billion in foreign investment in 2013. During that period, FDI in China dropped by 2.9 percent to less than $120 billion. At the same time, China has grown to be the third largest foreign investor in the world, with much of its investment directed to the nearby Southeast Asian economies.
